I had been on the lookout for a unique mirror to hang above the small cabinet in my office. While strolling through the Hobby Lobby clearance isle, this one grabbed my eye! I took this photo of it, still on the shelf. The clearance price was $15.oo which was ninety percent off of the original price. Sold! This was a signature Practical Fanatic find! It wouldn’t fit in the cart, so the nice employee hauled it to the front for me.
At first, I painted the mirror a light pink color and hung it up. Didn’t like it that color at all but I ended up hanging it on the wall above the cabinet (that was about to get a drastic makeover itself) just until I was certain I had a plan for the cabinet color. Oh well, only a matter of a little paint and some time to change the mirror once I was ready.
So, here we have the beautiful mirror painted light pink which wasn’t what I was going for and would soon be changed, and the small hutch that used to be right inside my mother’s doorway. For years, I’d look at this hutch at her house and think, wow, would I love to make that over!
I started by taking the dark hardware off of the cabinet. Pictured below is a lighter photo of the cabinet.
After deciding on some matte metallic silver paint for the hardware, I got busy painting. I used a small craft brush and added two coats of the silver paint to the hardware.
A little paint changes the whole look of these knobs and pulls. They look like antique silver knobs and pulls.
I started on the cabinet by using a coat of white primer then painted the cabinet white. It suddenly began to come to life! I got carried away painting so this photo is the only one I took during the process.
I ended up painting the unique mirror with the same matte metallic silver paint that I used on the cabinet knobs and pulls. I knew this would give the room that little “pop” it needed! (below-getting ready for the metallic silver paint)
Below are the “before” and “after” photos of the mirror and cabinet. These were the final two finished pieces for my office.
Before – Blah!
After – Aaahhhh!
Any room I makeover, I do with a very small budget. This room was no exception. I got the cabinet from my mom’s (free), the mirror was $15 (90%) off, the chandelier was $10, the three tall shelving units were $18 each, the white storage boxes were half off at Hobby Lobby $3 each, the white chair was $25 at a consignment store and the rug was half off at Wayfair for $80. Check out this room makeover here.
I hope you are inspired!
